Psalm 139

My FAVORITE chapter in Psalm is chapter 139!! Have you ever read it? You need to! It’s so good!

I love it because it shows how intimate God is with us. Not only is He the God of the universe, but He is the God that knows every single detail about you! Even the tiniest of details! I know the word “intimate” or “intimacy” is typically a word that you would use to describe your relationship with your spouse or significant other, but God wants us to be intimate with Him. However, the word takes on a different meaning in this case. In a relationship, people will often correlate intimacy with some sort of affection . With God, an intimate relationship is based on grace, faith, and love. An Agape kind of love. A relationship that exceeds any earthly relationship.  When I was younger, an “intimate” relationship with God kind of threw me. Especially when I would hear people say they were so “in love” with Jesus. Of course my small minded self only thought that falling in love was with the man that I was going to marry. Bless it! As I got older and more mature in my walk with Christ, I’ve realized that falling more in love with Jesus is actually the goal! And now, I am not at all weirded out by it!! In fact, that is what I want more and more everyday. To learn more! There are SO many things that I don’t know and need to know and want to know.

When it comes to my relationship with Jesus, I love reading and hearing about how much loves me. It makes me feel good! I am just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world and it’s nice to know that I have a God that loves me as much as He does!! (See what I did there!) Ha! Anyway,  I am sure that most of you have read parts of Psalm 139, if not all. There are a few verses in there that are quite popular. Like “you knit me together in my mother’s womb,” “you know what I am going to say even before I say it,” and “your thoughts outnumber the grains of sand.” Of course I am paraphrasing.  How awesome is this chapter though?! God knows when you sit and when you stand, He knows the words you are about to speak!! Not the words AS you are speaking them, but BEFORE you even talk. He knows the next paragraph that I am about to type! Which is good because I don’t even know that yet!! Ha! You can never escape His presence. He is everywhere!! Thank you Lord! Yes, He knit you together exactly how He wanted you. Before anyone else saw you, He formed you. You are NOT an accident and how you look is NOT an accident! You are perfect in His eyes! Every day of your life has been laid out even before the day has passed. His thoughts outnumber the grains of sand!! Holy Cow!!! That’s a lot of thinking! I have anxiety just “thinkin” about how much thinking that is!! Hehe!!

The last two verses, 23 and 24, are my favorite. I have them written down at work so I can read it every day. It says:

“Search me God and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

There’s that word “thoughts” again! So much thinking. I love these two verses because I NEED these two verses. This is a prayer of mine every day. I need God to work on me. I need Him to search my heart and get all that offends Him out of my heart. Testing is never fun but it is necessary when it comes to our relationship with Jesus. He never promised us that this walk would be easy and the trials we endure are what bring us closer to Him. When you go through those trials, that is when God works on your heart the most. When you are broken down and raw, that is when you grow. We go through these trials because God is preparing us for something later. Whether it is to minister to someone else, or He just needs you to learn a lesson. Kind of like He did to me with the whole Tim Tebow thing! (See “Humble Pie” post)

God LOVES you!! He cares about you! Ranging from the biggest day of your life to the most miniscule detail. If it matters to you, then it matters to Him, because He loves you that much!

God I pray for the start of a great week!! I pray that you overwhelm me with your peace! I need you more than ever as I walk through this life. “Search me God and know my heart,” please rid me of anything that does not please you. Help me to know that you love me and help me to know that you care!

Last but certainly not least, God I pray for Las Vegas right now! This world needs you Lord!! Please Come!!!
